MANILA, Philippines—Rain or Shine mainstay Gian Mamuyac rued how the Elasto Painters let TNT impose its will in Game 4 of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Mamuyac said that playing at TNT’s pace didn’t favor them at all, as the Tropang Giga squeaked past the Elasto Painters, 81-79, and sent them to the brink of elimination.

“We played at their pace. We’re used to playing in high-scoring games and the last time we won, we scored over a hundred,” said Mamuyac.

TNT moved on the verge of advancing to the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals after edging out Rain or Shine, 81-79, Wednesday for a commanding 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven semis series at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s slam with 37 seconds proved to be the difference maker as the Tropang Giga turned the tables on the Elasto Painters after being on the losing end of a thrilling finish in Game 3 to move one win away from a return trip to the championship stage.

Hollis-Jefferson also grabbed the decisive rebound after Gian Mamuyac missed a game-tying layup, beating Jhonard Clarito for possession.

Barangay Ginebra entered the PBA Governors’ Cup playoffs with cautious optimism, no thanks to injuries to mainstays Jamie Malonzo, Miah Gray and recently acquired big man Isaac Go.

But the Gin Kings have been solid in the knockout phase, winning all but one of their six games thus far, with three of those coming over a Meralco crew that was looking for a second straight championship.

The other two victories came against San Miguel Beer in these semifinals.

Rain or Shine import Aaron Fuller knew that it isn’t impossible to get out of a 0-3 hole in a best-of-seven semifinal series.

But against a traditional powerhouse looking to keep its lofty perch in the PBA Governors’ Cup? Fuller chose not to go through the trouble of fighting through that deficit during the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals Game 3 on Sunday night.

One of the many Elasto Painters who finally got going in the series against TNT, Fuller hit a layup to tie the game with 3.8 seconds remaining and then iced the game with a freebie, 110-109, ultimately putting his club on the board, 2-1, in the race-to-four affair for a Finals berth.
